Swaps & Challenges

The purpose of ECMQG swaps and challenges is to encourage members to expand beyond their current sewing and quilting abilities.  Unfamiliar color palettes, experimental techniques, perhaps even, a new way of doing something you've done a thousand times before, allow creativity to reign.

Challenges
As a member guild of the Modern Quilt Guild, ECMQG participates in challenges hosted by the MQG and their sponsors.  We abide by MQG challenge rules, and may also stipulate additional rules to stimulate individual creativity.  Additionally, ECMQG encourages all participants to share their creativity during Show and Tell, to the MQG forums, as well as, other social media platforms.

2019

In the fall, we will be swapping modern fat eighths - 11” x 18” cut of Art Gallery Elements in any of the fabric lines shown in the picture:

POST your pictures on Facebook to avoid duplicates. We will be swapping a warm, cool, and neutral group. Check your color wheel if you are unsure of a color. Each person may swap up to 3 yards total.

Periodically, we may also challenge our members to use specific fabrics, techniques, styles, designs, or other creative twists to expand our quilting repertoire.

Swaps
ECMQG hosts periodic swaps where all members are eligible to participate.  The purpose of swapping amongst ourselves is to foster friendship and creativity, build skills, and leave your quilting comfort zone.

Some ECMQG swaps may be secret swaps, where the recipient doesn't know who is creating their item.  Others may be partner swaps, where each quilter communicates with the other during the specified time frame.

During the months of August and September of each year, ECMQG hosts an Anniversary Scrap Swap that is combination of both the secret swap and the partner swap.  Your scraps are chosen randomly by someone during our August meeting, you have 10 minutes to discuss what item you'd like to receive, and then it's hands off, no communication, until the reveal and gifting at our September meeting.

Fabric swaps are, besides being hugely popular and fun, ECMQG's tool to introduce popular fabric designers who are, or have been, instrumental in the modern quilting movement.  Ideally, we'll swap a Modern Fat Eighth several times a year.
