Our meeting began promptly at 10 am with the clanking of the bell by our junior member Ava.

Old Business
*  Our zippy pouch swap from February “Bring Two, Take One” added 8 new items to our upcoming online auction inventory.

*  The Tiger Lily challenge was discussed.  A bag or tote using a pattern (or not) that the maker is comfortable with.  Tiger Lily fabric was on hand for purchase.  (We bought ours at A Quilter's Place)

*  Members were reminded to use the guilds Pinterest boards for ideas. Boards have been created with specific programs in mind.

*  Mary will be heading back home with beachy “Bits of Friendship” for her modern group at The Pine Tree Quilters of Muskoka.

*  Hospice quilt deadline is March 22.

New Business
*  We looked at and discussed the category winners from QuiltCon.

*  Members discussed the purchase of a roll of batting for charity quilts, members voted, all agreed to the purchase.

*  Laraine will be presenting the April program “Something Pillowy”.

*  The March program was presented by Natalie on Modern Blenders.

Design, color and motifs were discussed.  A card with a side by side fabric swatch was passed around to each member, then discussed why the fabric was either modern or traditional.

*  Members wanting to participate in the Modern Blender F8 Fabric Swap were asked to sign up for warm, cool or neutral fabrics.
F8’s are due at the April meeting.  Instructions for cutting are in the blog March 2016.  Members were reminded to shop locally.

Cotton & Steel F8 Swap - March 2015

Cotton & Steel modern F8s are the swap item for March!

Instructions for cutting can be found here (Cutting Modern Fat 8ths by A Lost Cricket Quilts) or here.

After cutting, separate your fabric into eight individual pieces.  Fabric received that is not folded into eight individual pieces will not be accepted.  The owner will be given a chance to fold the fabric before the sorting begins.

Fat 8ths individually folded for the swap
Next place your fat 8ths into a zip top bag labeled with your name.  Each yard of fabric will go into a separate ziplock.  This sample would be for only one yard of fabric.  (This was what I had on hand to photograph.  I wasn't cutting up fabric for a sample picture.)

Eight fat 8ths in a ziplock clearly labeled and ready for the swap.  (This is what I had on hand to photograph.  Please use one continuous yard of Cotton & Steel for each bag of fat 8ths for the swap.)

If you submit three different yards of fabric for the swap, you will submit three ziplocks of fabric. One ziplock for each yard of fabric cut into fat 8ths and individually folded.   Theoretically, you will receive one piece of your fabric plus seven different cuts of fabric back in your ziplock(s).  We will do our best to properly sort the fabric and return it to you without mistakes.  I will be the first to admit I am not perfect, but we will try to sort the fabric accurately.

Thanks for participating.  If you have any questions or need help, I am on Facebook as Cricketharris1.  You can reach me on the chat & I can provide further contact information to help you.

Thanks,

Cricket & Yvonne

Announcing... Our Fall MugRug Swap!!!

Hi everybody!  I know we're just finishing up our annual Scrappy Swap, but it's almost fall and it seems like a good time to get in the mood.  ECMQG will be hosting a Fall MugRug Swap.  As a participant, you may choose whether you would like a Halloween mugrug, a Thanksgiving mugrug or a generic fall themed mugrug.  Please know that this is a quick turnaround swap - you will have about 3 weeks to make your mugrug, so please plan accordingly.

So here are the details:

1.  Sign up in the comments by Wednesday, September 17.  Partners will be assigned by Sunday, September 21, so you will have 3 weeks to make your mugrug.  Be sure to mention
  a.  If you would like your partner to make a Halloween mugrug, Thanksgiving mugrug, or generic fall-themed mugrug
  b.  If you have a preference as to which item you make, please mention that as well
  c.  Your email address.  You may post it like this  wendimihalik at yahoo  so net bots can't spam you.

2.  Use only quilt shop quality fabrics.  No "big box store" fabrics, with the exception of the designer lines they may offer.  Joann's offers designer lines by Denyse Schmidt (DS Quilts), ModKid, Patty Young, Juliana Horner, and a few others.

3.  Make your item with a modern aesthetic.  We are a MODERN quilt guild, after all.

4.  Make your item the best you know how.  Be sure to make something you would like to receive.

5.  No extras are necessary, but if you wish to include them you may.

6.  Bring your swap item to the OCTOBER guild meeting.  We'll swap with each other then.  (I always love the excitement of seeing what everyone has made!)

7.  Be sure and say "thank you" when you receive your gift.  It's only good manners, after all.

8.  Have fun!

The End of an Era
