Hey! Check it out!! We're making a block like the ECMQG logo. (I've always wondered how to do that...)
Elaine and Cindy have tested this block and have been working on finalizing some details. This post contains the basic information. Tomorrow, Cindy, who embraces wonkiness, has tips and tricks to help us out.
This block will be a good stash buster for your modern
scraps. It's a simple and fun. As always, the theme should be modern.
The center piece is Kona white or Bella white. The wedges are pieced from your scraps, and can include prints and solids. Other than the Kona/Bella white, there is no specific color palette. You can make monochromatic blocks as I did, or they can be a riot of scrappy colors. That choice is yours.
You need scraps ranging in size. Mine were anywhere from 2.5"x 7" to 2.5" x 9".
Cut the white strip to 1.5" x 14".
Cut the white strip to 1.5" x 14".
Make a wedge shape by trimming them to approximately 1.5" wide at one end. Leave
the other end close to 2.5".
When you sew your scraps together they will be slightly
wonky triangles.
Sew all of your scraps together, making a strip set measuring at least 13" long and 7" wide. Make two sets. Trim each to 6" x 12.5".
Sew your white strip to the long of side of one 6” x 12.5” piece. Attach the second strip set to the opposite side of the white piece.
A couple of tips for sewing & pressing: Since there are
so many seams, press them OPEN. A flatter block is the result. A good spritz of starch to helped set my seams.
